BIKE & BOAT HOLIDAYS IN HOLLAND & BELGIUM
Sometimes collectively called 'The Low Countries', Holland and Belgium are natural bedfellows. They’ve certainly got a lot of flatlands and rivers in common, not to mention really rich history too!
Bike and boat holidays from Amsterdam down to Bruges combine the two countries almost seamlessly, as you go with the flow from Holland’s cities of the Dutch Golden Age to the magnificent art cities and medieval masterpieces of Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges.
From Bruges and its nearby North Sea Coast, there’s another gentle river and canal journey to be had all the way to Belgian capital, Brussels.
You’d expect the cycling on linear bike and boat routes to be nice and straight forward and both canal-rich countries just can’t fail to please. But as well as canal and riverside paths, the country lanes which lead through little rural villages, past historic farmsteads (and of course the occasional windmill) are equally as delightful, if slightly more meandering.
With dedicated cycle paths plus segregated cycle lanes in many of the major towns and cities, as well as wonderful way-marking systems for spot on orientation, cycling in Holland and Belgium couldn’t be a greater pleasure.
There’s no challenging terrain, no big rush, no lycra or go faster stripes required – just push your pedals at your own pace and simply go with the flow!
