Bike & Barge: From Amsterdam to Bruges - Cycle Holland & Flanders
8 days | MS Magnifique II | Guided or self-guided cycle tour
Amsterdam, Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges – each one of these wonderfully unique and beautiful, historic cities is a real treat in itself and a joy to explore by bike. But now you can experience them all and give yourself an extra special treat too, on an ultimate classic tour with the new premium Dutch barge, MS Magnifique II, as your floating luxury hotel.
Whether you choose a standard cabin or treat yourself to a delightful upper deck suite with your own panoramic window views, there simply couldn’t be a more stylish Dutch way to relax – apart from pushing those pedals gently across the flat polders or along the lovely banks of the Lower Schelde of course!
Cycle out on guided or self-guided day rides to explore countless windmills (well, there are nineteen for a start at the famous Kinderdijk!), to admire ‘Silver City’, Schoonhoven and historic harbourlands like Dordrecht. Forest and riverbank paths lead past impressive configurations of canal locks at Kreekraksluis, as you edge into Belgium towards Rubens’ city of Antwerp - a place glinting with diamonds and graced with a most amazing cathedral. But little prepares you for the medieval magnificence of university city, Ghent, and that ‘Pearl of Flanders’ and ‘Venice of the North’, Bruges. Explore them both by bike. Stroll along their canals. Drink in the atmosphere and a coffee on the café terrace and stay over moored up on their waterways. They’re truly vibrant cities by day and by night, but the quiet polder countryside is on their historic doorstep and the dunes of North Sea Coast at ‘Het Zwin’ nature reserve are just a pleasant, gentle cycle ride away.
This linear tour route is available in both directions, starting either in Amsterdam, the Netherlands or Bruges, Belgium. Return travel to your start point is possible by train, but this is not included in the tour price.
Nice & Easy - Gentle touring by bike along flat cycle tracks and minor roads. Some small and short ascents only in areas where there are drainage dykes and bridges. Cycle map includes route options, so you have the flexibility to shorten or extend your bike tour as you wish.
