Here's the ideal way to enjoy a wonderful tour of Holland without all the hassle of have to pack & unpack day in, day out! On a boat and bike holiday with Holland-by-Bike, you can explore a different area each day as your accommodation floats along to the next overnight destination. Nice & gentle cycling
Relax. Pushing those pedals on a Holland-by-Bike holiday just couldn't be more straight forward, even when you're following a meandering river! All our selected cycle routes cover distances which are easy to manage, especially as Dutch and Belgian landscapes are mainly very flat. So, there's no need to be an experienced cyclist or get into any sort of training regime beforehand. First timers and novices are very welcome and you will only need a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy the gentle exercise.
The day rides are generally between 25 and 65 kms / 15 and 40 miles long. In many cases, there's a chance to extend or shorten the tours too, so you can choose what works best for you. Background information and maps are provided for the daily cycle routes and these are also explained in advance by the tour guide on-board.
Your ship will usually be moored at or near the centre of each destination, so you can look forward to a stroll through the town in the evenings.
Enjoy the hospitality
In the mornings, the friendly crew will prepare a good breakfast for you - usually a buffet breakfast - to set you up for a great day's cycling. Everyone is invited to make their own packed lunch to include sandwiches, fruit, a snack and a drink.
After breakfast, or sometimes after a the ship has made a short journey, you will disembark to start your bike tour. The daily cycle routes are designed to allow sufficient time for both a good amount of sightseeing and breaks as well. After your day out exploring by bike, you'll meet up with your ship again at an agreed place in the afternoon or evening and be welcomed back on board with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee. In the evening, the chef serves a three course meal or prepares a supper buffet. Drinks are available from the ship’s bar.
If on any of the days you don't feel like cycling and would prefer simply to relax for a day in between cycle tours, you're welcome to just stay on board and take it easy on deck or in the lounge. Accommodation on almost all ships is in a cabin with your own shower/WC and with comfortable beds. A friendly and committed crew will look forward to welcoming you on board and looking after you during your Boat & Bike stay.
