Bike & Sail: Lake IJssel Shore to Shore & More - Guided
8 days | Leafde fan Fryslân | Guided bike tours
Pedal out along the shores of the mighty IJsselmeer and sail across in style to Friesland and Flevoland beneath the beautiful barquentine sails of a classic three mast schooner. From Marken on the great lake’s west coast to Urk and Schokland in the east, this circular guided bike and sail adventure from must-see Amsterdam takes in not only tiny and traditional forgotten islands, but even Holland’s biggest cheese - Edam - as well! Cycle through the idyllic green polders of Waterland. Discover the folktale behind Friesland’s time-honoured city of Stavoren. And at Hoorn and Enkuizen, spend the night with your impressive sailing ship moored in historic harbours, which centuries ago saw precious spice cargos unloaded on Zuidersee quaysides during the Dutch Golden Age.
Fancy lending a hand on deck? Your hosts for this week-long tour, the experienced crew of barquentine Leafde fan Fryslân, welcome novices and experienced sailors alike to take an active part in sailing the ship. The daily cycling programmes are designed to be flexible, so if you prefer to relax on board and enjoy a day’s sailing, that is an option.
