Rent a motor-cruiser & bike: Eleven Cities Tour - Northern Route
7 days I Motor-cruiser & Bike I Self-guided tour
Tour north from Sneek marina in your motor-cruiser home to discover Grouw and the pretty polderlands near the tiny ‘Heart of Friesland’ – Aegum, the province’s tiniest, but much-loved village. Historic Leeuwarden is 2018’s European Capital of Culture and has so much to explore, but be sure to pedal out to Franeker to visit the world’s oldest planetarium - now a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site – plus the heritage offerings at Dokkum too. Cruise along canals and small lakes en route to the sporty city of Heerenveen, through an area created by past generations digging out peat for fuel and pedal around Terhorne’s beautiful rural landscapes, before taking a peek at its fascinating harbour museum.
Nice & Easy: Short, gentle cycle rides, touring in flat terrain along mostly paved minor roads and paved cycle paths without any gradients of note. Some small and short ascents only in areas where there are drainage dykes and bridges. The cycle tour route is nice and flexible: with a very good map to hand and the excellent cycle track network signposting, you'll have no trouble extending or shortening your bike ride if you like.
Arrival by plane: Arriving in Amsterdam Schiphol airport, take the hourly train directly from the airport via Leeuwarden to Sneek. The rail journey takes approx. 2 hours 50 mins /cost approx. € 26,00 per person.
