Eleven Cities Tour - Southern Route

Tour south from Sneek marina in your motor-cruiser home to discover the fortified medieval city of Sloten and charming canal towns and historic villages of rural Gaasterland, where flat, green polderlands give way to more rolling landscapes, woods and forests. There’s Hanseatic heritage to be explored in Hindeloopen and Stavoren, but both hold on to the past in other ways too through their traditional crafts and fascinating folktales. Don’t miss the Jopie Huisman Museum in Workum, to take in the artist’s unique interpretation of Frisian rural life and be sure to  drink in the atmosphere in Joure, home to Douwe Egbert’s historic coffee-trading emporium.

‘Elfstedentocht’ cities included in this tour: Sneek, IJst, Sloten, Stavoren, Hindeloopen, Workum, Bolsward.

Tour level

Nice & Easy:  Short, gentle cycle rides, touring in flat terrain along mostly paved minor roads and paved cycle paths without any gradients of note. Some small and short ascents only in areas where there are drainage dykes and bridges. The cycle tour route is nice and flexible: with a very good map to hand and the excellent cycle track network signposting, you'll have no trouble extending or shortening your bike ride if you like.
