Cycle & Stay: Tulips & Amsterdam
5 days I Hotel to Hotel I Self-guided cycle tour
Welcome to one of Holland’s most colourful cycle tours! Tulips and Amsterdam are such a typically Dutch combination (recommended from April to mid-May), but on this gentle bike holiday you’ll be wanting to look out for daffodils, crocuses and fragrant hyacinths by the field-full, as well as the greenest polders near the golden sands of the North Sea dunes.
The world-famous Keukenhof flower park and exhibition gardens are sure to steal the show, but as you push your pedals by the historic canals of Amsterdam, through South Kennemerland to the hidden ‘hofjes’ of ‘City of Flowers’, Haarlem, and on to the impressive university land of Leiden, there’s so much more local colour to discover along the way. Don’t miss the 19th century steam-driven pumping station, ‘Cruquius’; the glittering lakes of Holland’s Green Heart; or the grand mansions with manicured grounds dotted along the banks of the River Amstel. At Leiden the botanical gardens are surely a must for any garden-lover too, so you’ll find cycling distances short throughout, allowing plenty of time to tiptoe through the tulips at your own pace.
Although no-one can predict exactly when spring will set in, if you head to Holland’s bulb flower region around April to mid-May, chances are you’ll experience landscapes transformed into spectacular technicolour.
Nice & Easy - Gentle touring by bike along flat cycle tracks and minor roads. Some small and short ascents only in areas where there are drainage dykes and bridges. Cycle map includes route options, so you have the flexibility to shorten or extend your bike tour as you wish.
